Some pictures from my three-day hike from Kandersteg in the canton of Bern over the Lötschen Pass to the Lötschental valley in the canton of Valais.

Gastern Valley
After all the rain, the Kander River, which flows through the Gastern valley, was carrying a lot of water. Very impressive!

Now that’s what I call a waterfall!

In Selden, where I stayed at the highly recommended Steinbock mountain hotel and restaurant.

The ascent from Selden to the Lötschen Pass

Lötschen Pass
There are several mountain lakes around the pass.

In the evening, a colony of about 10 ibex grazed very close to the hut.

The next morning

The most striking peak is the Bietschhorn, which rises to 3,934 meters above sea level.

Descent to Ferden
During the 1,300-meter descent, I kept hearing the whistling of marmots. Once, I even saw one!

One last look at the Bietschhorn

A fantastic hike that showed me that Switzerland really is one of the most beautiful countries in the world!
